Warburtons

The Brief

Our challenge was to develop and deliver a bespoke leadership development programme which supported Warburton's Senior Leaders and Managers to boost performance and sustain it. The programme had to link into their already established five-year business strategy. Importantly the programme had to respect their past as well as equip their leaders with the necessary skills to face an unpredictable future.

The Approach

In 2008 we started delivering a comprehensive leadership development programme and branded it the Leadership Excellence Programme (LEP). It is still running and is now in its 5th Wave. It features a mix of the following interventions. A 3 day residential programme focussing on key areas of Senior Leadership, Personal Leadership Journey (PLJ); which includes a mix of psychometric tools and 1-2-1 coaching support; Executive Coaching Programmes where appropriate and development work with their senior leadership teams, using our Elite Management Team (EMT) approach.

Programme Success

The return on investment from the programme has recently been documented in People Management Magazine. This huge return of 6 times the investment and has had a vast impact on the organisation. On an individual level the programme has and continues to dramatically increase levels of self awareness and self confidence. Its comprehensive nature has also ensured that Warburton's Senior Leaders now have a relevant set of sustainable leadership behaviours to take the organisation into the future.

Highlights

Typical descriptions before the launch ranged from "apprehensive, sceptical and open-minded" to "interested, hopeful and excited". More than one year on, typical reactions are "excited, positive and impressed" to "inspirational, life-changing and best in class".
